The Black Lutheran Alumni Association is celebrating five years of awarding scholarships to qualifying seniors at Concordia Lutheran High School, Fort Wayne, IN!
President Michael Edmonds says, “B.L.A.S.T. began as a way to honor our parents, who made significant financial sacrifices to send us to Concordia to ensure a Christian education. Now five years later, B.L.A.S.T. has awarded 10 scholarships to African American seniors at Concordia Lutheran High School. We are proud of our alliance with Concordia, and we will continue to provide scholarships to qualifying seniors.”
Concordia Lutheran High School Head of School Jacob Pennekamp says, "B.L.A.S.T. is more than scholarship awards. The organization provides our students the space to build lasting relationships while pursuing their educational endeavors and career pursuits. We believe in the mission and appreciate the partnership.”
We also thank the Black Clergy Caucus of the LCMS for its support, and the amazing opportunities that will arise from this partnership.
Here is an update of our B.L.A.S.T. scholarship recipients:
Isaac Jomo, 2026 - Isaac will study pre-med at Butler University, IN, in hopes of becoming an orthopedic surgeon.
Faith Logan, 2026 - Faith will study nursing at Ball State University, IN, pursuing a career as a Nurse Practitioner and MidWife
Paikea Early-Aden, 2025 - Paikea is entering her Sophomore year at DePauw University, Greencastle, IN, with a major in Art History
Ny’sia Walker, 2025 recipient - Ny’sia is entering her Sophomore year at Indiana University, Bloomington, IN, majoring in Law and Public Policy
Noelani Lewis, 2024 - Noelani Lewis is a junior at Indiana State University studying Kinesiology.
Steven Essex, 2024 - Steven is a junior at Indiana University Bloomington, IN studying music and entertainment.
Paige Jackson, 2023 - Paige is a senior at Indiana University, Bloomington, IN pursuing an Education degree.
Ulysses Jackson, 2023 - Ulysses is a senior at Purdue University, with a double major in Kinesiology and Film Production.
Dontrell Johnson, 2022 - Dontrell completed his undergraduate degree from Ball State University’s Miller College of Business in three years. In May 2026 Dontrell graduated from the University of Cincinnati with his Master’s Degree in Business Administration. Dontrell has accepted a job with Great American Insurance Group in Cincinnati, as an Associate Data Reporting Analyst.
Mahelat Lee, 2022 - Mahelat graduated from PFW Fort Wayne, IN with a degree in Anthropology and is pursuing a career in Social Work.
